Belarus Football - Week 14

June 19, 20, & 21, 2020
After the excitement and controversy of the draw between BATE and Shakhtyor, Dinamo Brest winning a difficult fixture at Torpedo and Belshina finally registering their first win, the fixture list has a more mundane look to it this week. However, close matches look to be in prospect at Slavia, Isloch and Vitebsk, whilst BATE, Shakhtyor and both Dinamo sides will be looking for wins to continue their challenges.

FK Slavia Mozyr vs FK Smolevichy STI ( Friday at 15.00 UK time )
Improving Smolevichy have an opportunity to close the gap on struggling Slavia, who have only one win in their last 6 matches. Should be a good game. 2-2 ?
Result : 2-1. Smolevichy dominated the first half but missed a host of good chances against a lethargic Slavia side. With three goals in a 5 minute spell just after half-time Tetteh's athletic header decided the match, with Slavia comfortably holding out for the victory. Another lost opportunity for Smolevichy.
FK Slutsk vs Neman Grodno ( Friday at 17.00 UK time )
Neman have won 4 on the trot, whilst Slutsk without a win in 6 matches are on the crest of a slump. Neman to march on. 1-2
Result : 0-1. Zabelin's determined header after 31 minutes was enough to give Neman their 5th win on the spin. Slutsk's frustrations led to 2 red cards in the last 5 minutes.
FK Isloch Minsk vs Torpedo BelAZ Zhodino ( Saturday at 14.00 UK time )
Two closely matched sides. Torpedo need to win to get back in the title picture but Isloch will be tough. 1-1
Result : 2-2. An entertaining match and a fair result. Ramos got two goals for Torpedo, the second from a harshly awarded penalty against the Isloch keeper. Isloch equalized 2 minutes from time, after Godfrey had received a second yellow for kicking the ball away in frustration. Kuzmenok scored both for Isloch.
Dinamo Brest vs FK Gorodeya ( Saturday at 16.00 UK time )
Gorodeya stopped the rot with a much needed win last week, but Dinamo have hit form and should register a routine win. 3-0
Result : 3-1. After in form striker Arkhipov gave Gordodeya the lead Dinamo battered the visitors to lead 3-1 with 20 minutes to play. Gorodeya then missed several chances, including hitting the bar twice in the 90th minute. A throughly enjoyable game.
Dinamo Minsk  vs Energetik BGU Minsk  ( Saturday at 18.00 UK time )
Dinamo have strengthened their squad and are slowly starting to get their act together. Energetik were poor in losing at home to Belshina last week. 1-0
Result : 0-0. Dinamo's scoring at home issues continue, it's now just 7 goals in 8 home matches. Neither side deserved to win this.
Belshina Bobruisk vs BATE Borisov ( Sunday at 14.00 UK time )
Despite their first win of the season last week, bottom of the table Belshina are unlikely to take anything from this fixture against BATE. 0-2
Result : 0-2. BATE extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches in far from convincing fashion. Belshina hit the woodwork twice in the first twenty minutes, and it took Stasevich's tremendous low swerving shot out of nothing to give them the lead at half-time. BATE looked more comfortable in the second half but only a contraversial goal from Nekhaychik 8 minutes before the end enabled them to clinch the win. There was a clear push on the defender forcing him to collide with the Belsina keeper, but perhaps it evened out the decision that went against BATE last week.......
FK Vitebsk vs FK Minsk ( Sunday at 16.00 UK time )
Despite two matches in hand, Minsk need to start collecting points to move away from the danger zone. Vitebsk have been solid recently and are unbeaten in 6 matches. 2-1
Result : 1-0. Nicolaescu's 11th minute penalty was enough to give Vitebsk victoy in an even but uneventful match. Misnk had a lot of possession in the second half but were rarely able to trouble the well organised Vitebsk defence.
Shakhtyor Soligorsk vs Rukh Brest ( Sunday at 18.00 UK time )
After their thrilling draw at BATE, Shakhtyor to overcome a Rukh side that has looked less solid in recent weeks. 2-0
Result : 1-1. Depleted through injuries and suspensions, Rukh earned a surprise but deserved draw in Soligorsk. Shakhtyor's early barrage could have seen them 3-0 up after 15 minutes but their wasteful finishing was exemplified by Lisakovich sending a fancy Rabona flick from 6 yards when it was easier to just smack into the net. Rukh finally settled and Diallo, who was dangerous throughout, had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside. As the home side continued the find new ways to waste chances, it was perhaps inevitable that Rukh would score, and on 72 minutes, Chyzh's intelligent and unselfish lay-off gave Diallo a simple chance. Lisakovich partially redeemed himself with a good finish for the equaliser, and although Shakhtyor huffed and puffed in the closing stages, Rukh held out for a point, and even had a chance to snatch a late winner themselves.

Comments :
With Shakhtyor only drawing at home, BATE extended their lead at the top to 4 points and Shakhtyor's inability to convert the chances they make continues to be a problem. Wins for Dinamo Brest and Neman saw them close the gap on second place, and draws for Torpedo and Energetik see them hanging on. At the bottom, FK Minsk need to start winning to move out of the relegation play-off place. Slutsk probably now need to start looking towards the bottom of the table, rather than the top........

17 goals scored this week, with 3 penalties ( all scored ) and 3 red cards ( all for second yellows )
