Belarus Football – Week 23

September 11, 12 & 13, 2020
Back after a break for the Belarus Cup and Nations League Internationals. Hopefully after the trouble free Krumkachy vs Dinamo Minsk cup-tie, spectators will be allowed into the stadiums again…...
FK Minsk vs FK Gorodeya ( Friday at 15.00 UK time )
A big game at the bottom of the table. After their unexpected win over Neman in rescheduled fixture, and Cup progess over Division 2 opposition, the new manager bounce should continue for Minsk to move out of the danger zone. 2-0
Result : 3-0. An emphatic win that almost takes FK Minsk to safety, especially as they have two matches to play against Smolevichy this month. Nasibulin's 7th minute opener had an element of luck to it, his failed flick deceived the Gorodeya defenders and left him free with the ball at his feet. Two more goals in the last 20 minutes put the gloss on the victory. Gorodeya have now taken just one point in their last 5 matches.
Rukh Brest vs Neman Grodno ( Saturday at 12.00 UK time )
Having lost twice and conceding 6 goals, Neman are on the slide and a visit to enterprising Rukh is not the best fixture to have. Rukh to continue their good form. 2-1
Result : 2-3. Neman kept their faint title hopes alive with victory in an open and entertaining game in Brest. Neman started strongly, Marusic heading home in the second minute, and with Poe prominent in most of their attacks they deservedly led 2-0 at half-time.  Shevchenko pulled a goal back for Rukh shortly after the restart, but another effort from Marusic restored the two goal advantage. Despite a goal from Sadovskiy 10 minutes from the end, Neman held onto for the three points. However, the Wall of Grodno is well and truely broken, its now 8 goals conceded in three games.
BATE Borisov vs FK Smolevichy STI ( Saturday at 14.00 UK time )
A home banker. Doomed Smolevichy are likely to get a tonking at revitalised BATE. 4-0
Result : 5-2. Despite starting without their 4 Belarus internationals from the Nations League matches, BATE eventually registered the expected big win. BATE's aerial strength was evident with all 5 goals coming from headers ( Willumsson and Skavysh with two each ), and there was the obligatory wobble after Smolevichy pulled it back to 2-1. Smolevichy finished with 10 men after Zhevnerov saw red as the last man, but they were still able to add a well worked consolation goal at the end. Moukam injury-time penalty for BATE was well saved .
Shakhtyor Soligorsk vs FK Vitebsk ( Saturday at 16.00 UK time )
A tough introduction for the new management team after the surprise departure of Yuri Vernidub, and Shakhtyor need to bounce back from the uncharacterising display at Isloch. Shakhtyor keeper Gutor will be hoping to avoid a repeat of his error strewn performance in the international against Kazakhstan…..1-0
Result : 5-0. Shakhtyor turned in probably their best performance of the season to inflict Vitebsk's biggest defeat. Vitebsk's normally tight defence had few answers to Darko Bodul, who in a rare start score one and created the other two of the first three goals before being substituted with the points already secured. Kendysh, returning from injury, was also influential and scored a rare goal. A typical run and left-footed shot from Yakshiboev in the last minute wrapped up the win.
Dinamo Minsk vs Dinamo Brest ( Saturday at 18.00 UK time )
The Minsk Dinamo were awful in their catastrophic cup defeat to Krumkachy. The Brest Dinamo can be terrific one day and awful the next. Who knows what will happen here ? 0-0
Result : 2-4. After 60 minutes Dinamo Minsk deservedly led 1-0 in a turgid game before Dinamo Brest unexpectedly burst into life following the introduction of Denis Laptev. Diallo tapped in from two yards from a corner and although Bakhar's fine effort restored the home side's lead, another close range finish from Diallo levelled the match again with 15 minutes to play. With both sides searching for the winner in an enthralling finale, a soft penalty award on 89 minutes enabled the trusty left foot of Savitski to give Brest the lead, and there was still enough time for Diallo to grab his hat-track with a cool finish to bring the match to a scarely believable conclusion.
Energetik BGU Minsk vs FK Slutsk ( Sunday at 12.00 UK time ) - Postponed
Troubled Slutsk are unlikely to get any respite from an Energetik team that appears to have stopped the rot and are now unbeaten in three matches. 2-0
Belshina Bobruisk vs FK Isloch Minsk ( Sunday at 14.00 UK time )
A vital match for Belshina if they are to pull clear from automatic relegation. Belshina have won three successive matches but Isloch have won 4 on the trot. 2-2
Result : 2-3. Heartbreak for Belshina as Yusov scrambled home in the 90th minute after Komarovsky's free-kick had been parried. Isloch had dominated the first 30 minutes and led after Komarovsky's cross deceived the Belshina keeper and went in off the under side of the bar. A debatable penalty on the stroke of half time got Belshina back into the match and they then dominated the second half.  Immediately after the sliding Kovel just failed to make contact with a low cross across the face of the goal, Yansane gave Isloch the lead at the second attempt after being first to a long ball. Salimov converted his second penalty of the match, no dispute about this award, with around 10 minutes left to play and although they looked the more likely to get the winner, they went home empty handed.3
Torpedo BelAZ Zhodino vs FK Slavia Mozyr ( Sunday at 16.00 UK time )
Torpedo are unbeaten in 5 matches and have moved quietly into 4th. Slavia’s leaky defence will probably be their undoing again. 3-1
Result : 4-2. Another entertaining game. Tetteh gave Slavia an early lead, but after scoring for Belarus in the Nations League last weekend, Torpedo centre-back Bordachev now has an appetite for goals and he bravely headed the equalizer for his first league goal of the season. A tremendous curling left-footed shot from Veloso on the stroke of half-time gave Torpedo the lead, and further goals from Antilevski and Khachaturyan exploited Slavia's defensive frailties. Melnikov grabbed a consolation goal 10 minutes from the end.
Summary :

Rukh Brest 2-3 Neman Grodno ( att : 524 )

Comments :
The seven matches produced an astonishing 37 goals with four penalties and one red cards being awarded.

With the top 5 all winning there is no change at the top of the table, with Shakhtyor improving their goal difference advantage over BATE.

At the bottom Belshina yet again lost a match they should have drawn or won, and missed out on the opportunity to move out of the bottom 2 for the first time this season. They are running out of matches, but Gordodeya and Slutsk have hardly looked likely to pick up many wins so it remains tight. FK Minsk's win over Gordodeya virtually ensures their survival,
