Dukla Prague 2-1 Brno ( att : 2,537 )

April 27, 2018

A return to Juliska for an end of season relegation battle. Dukla were 4th bottom and Brno bottom. A nice sunny Friday evening attracted a higher than normal crowd to Dukla.

Entrance is now 180 KCS, but the beer is still 30 KCS and the programme 20 KCS. Sausages were 50 KCS. This time there were huge queues at the main refreshments area, but 30 metres or so beyond there was a stand serving just beer that had no-one there ! Mrs Fatbear complained that they didn't sell wine anywhere in the ground.

The only player you may have heard of was Martin Jiranek who was at Birmingham when they won the League Cup against Arsenal and were relegated. He is now 38 and very slow but played some nice passes from centre back for Dukla.

Brno put together the three best moves of the match but their defence always looked like they were about to make a major clanger. In fact they took the lead when a nice cross from the left was met beyond the far post by the advancing midfielder ghosting in un-noticed. His short was saved but Skoda, Brno's centre forward smashed the loose ball into the net. Dukla were level a few minutes later when Brno's centre back under no pressure and able to pass anywhere decided to pass straight to a nearby Dukla forward, Holik, who ran through to score. HT 1-1.

Dukla dominated the first part of the second half and deservedly took the lead when Schranz, their centre forward was left unmarked about 6 yards out to head home a cross from the left.

Brno's best player until then was a winger, Ashiru, who I later looked up as being Nigerian. At the centre of their best moves, and his direct running looked dangerous even if there was no end product. So, losing in a must win game, the Brno coach took him, and the goal-scorer off !

The game fizzled out after that and Dukla came close a couple of times to adding a third. The home fans went home happy, their team should now be safe although they do have a tough run-in and may not get any points from their last 4 matches. Brno probably need to win 3 of their last 4, and look doomed ! Frankly, it looked like they had 2 or 3 players who shouldn't be playing at this level, with the worst being on loan from Champions Viktoria Plzen !

Brno brought about 100 fans who were in the corner of the main stand. They made a lot of noise. They also had one idiot in the centre of the main stand who kept standing up and singing but was ignored by the home fans around him. If he did that at Sparta he would end up in hospital.
